Graphic Novel Class Information
Fall 2024 semester: 09/04/2024 - 12/20/2024
This course is an introduction to critical reading and discussion of poetry, prose, drama, and comics to increase the student’s appreciation of the dynamics between themes and forms in the art of literature. Some sections emphasize literary forms, and others philosophical, moral, or social themes. This course combines literary and historical approaches to specifically explore the rapidly growing and popular literature genre of the comics. The course examines the interdisciplinary approach of comics as both literature and fine arts, and investigates the text-image relationship and storytelling approaches. By studying comics, students will inspect how creators treat themes of politics, sexuality, class, censorship, violence, and cultural and ethnic diversity.
Class begins on Monday, September 9, 2024
Date: Monday (Weekly); Time: 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm; Location: Zoom
